Prometheus (2012) is a prequel: the object is to explain the presence in Alien of a corpse with a hole blasted open in his stomach. Director named the film «Prometheus», seeing the name fit the film’s themes: «It’s the story of creation; the gods and the man who stood against them.» Ridley Scott has changed his classic Alien into something more elaborate – but less frightening. In place of scariness there is wonderment. There is also one terrifically creepy performance from Michael Fassbender, who steals the film with the chilling, parasitic relentlessness of that first gut-bound alien. The film takes place in space, where no one can hear you scream.

[REC] (2007) is a Spanish horror film. The film is made in the form of «found footage». [REC] was made and shot in real locations. No sets were built to make this movie. The actors were never given the script in its entirety so none of them knew of their character’s fates, sometimes not until the day they were actually filming their scenes. This meant that the actors were — more often than not — stressed, nervous and apprehensive on the day of filming, ideal qualities for the film itself. It’s brilliantly staged and sustains the edge-of-the-seat tension to the very last second.
